Bite Your Tongue is an independent design brand based in Wales, built around original artwork, dark humour, strange ideas and the occasional bad decision.
We make designs we would actually want to wear ourselves. Some are sarcastic, some are colourful, some lean into folklore, science, animals or British humour. There is no single formula behind it, and that is pretty much the point.
Bite Your Tongue started as a small idea and quickly turned into something much bigger.
At first, it was simply about creating original T-shirt designs that felt different from the endless recycled graphics already out there. We wanted more personality, more character and more room to experiment. One design became ten, ten became dozens, and before long we had full collections, a proper brand and far too many ideas waiting to be made.
The name Bite Your Tongue fits us well. A lot of our work sits somewhere between saying what everyone is thinking and knowing when maybe you should not say it out loud.
Our collections are deliberately varied.
You will find sarcastic statement pieces, colourful animal artwork, Slavic folklore, science jokes, British-inspired designs and a few things that are harder to put into any sensible category.
Everything starts with the artwork. We care about how a design looks on the actual garment, not just on a screen, and we spend a ridiculous amount of time adjusting scale, placement, colour and detail until it feels right.
We are not interested in filling a shop with hundreds of nearly identical designs just for the sake of it. We would rather build collections that have their own identity.
Bite Your Tongue is based in Wales and that is where the creative side of the brand lives.
The designs, ideas, collections and overall direction are developed here before being turned into finished products and sent out to customers.
We are still a small independent brand, which means we can change direction quickly, try odd ideas and make things simply because we think they are worth making.
T-shirts are only the beginning.
The plan is to keep expanding the artwork into new collections, prints, cards and other products while building Bite Your Tongue into a proper independent brand with its own identity.
Over time, we want more control over how our products are made, presented and sold, while keeping the part that matters most exactly the same: original work, strong ideas and designs with some actual personality.
We are still building it, still learning and still adding new things all the time. That is part of the fun.
